There is no question that people love staying in their bedrooms. It’s our personal safety refuge where we can be vulnerable. And when we go out on vacations, our experience gets more awesome if we’ve got a splendid hotel room to stay in. But what if we transform our own bedroom into a luxurious hotel-like room?
Luxe hotel rooms are designed and furnished to impress all types of guests, which means not everything inside might suit your taste. With your very own hotel-like bedroom, you can design and decor it however you want, with pieces that reflect your personality, aesthetic, and even some of your quirks. Boost your creativity by putting together high-end elements, such as hotel quality home bedding, furniture, accessories, etc.
The Bed
Have you ever wondered why hotel rooms use white sheets all the time? It’s because white symbolizes luxury. An all-white bed has something that connotes it to luxury and a good night’s sleep. Before hotels resorted to white sheets, they used colored bedspreads because they’re easier to clean. However, when they tested how their guests would react to white sheets, it yielded positive results. It turns out white has the halo effect on guests; they thought the room was renovated, when in fact it was only the bed that has been changed.
That said, try to make your bedding pre-dominantly white. Look for sheets with no more than 300-thread count, like what hotels use. Choose cotton (Egyptian, to be exact), because it’s a breathable fabric that will give you a cool sleep. For your comforter or duvet, go with fluffy ones; ideally, the duvet insert should be 2 inches wider than the cover to maximize fluffiness. Add some throw pillows to accessorize the bed, too. You can dress them in different colors that highly contrast all the white.
Furniture, Appliance, and Fixture
In hotel rooms, there is always a plush seat, so add one to yours; there’s also a coffee niche or a mini-refrigerator and a desk. Depending on your hobbies or daily activities, you can always add more furniture, as long as you don’t cramp the space.
To improve your room’s acoustics, you may add extra insulation between walls, replace your carpet pad if necessary, and install cushioned walls on the headboard. The ventilation system is crucial, too; make sure the vents aren’t directed straight to the bed. Consider a fireplace as well. It’s always a nice feature in luxe hotels. If possible, have three-way bedside switching controls installed.
Lighting
Sophisticated lighting is key. You’d need a lot more lighting fixture than overhead ones because a few of your furniture needs to be lit up, too. Install lights in your wardrobe that would automatically turn on when you open it. Light up your vanity table. Install wall-mounted lights, too. Make every accessory light dimmable for a maximum luxe feel.
Letting in natural light is also essential. Your drapery treatment should stack past windows to maximize your view. You’d also want them to be thick enough so that they can “blackout” the room when you need to sleep.
Lastly, accessorize your bedroom with items related to the things you enjoy, whether it’s art pieces, photographs, books, etc. It’s your own space, after all, so you don’t have to follow a strict set of rules to decorate it. Follow your heart and remember that the most important person who should enjoy your bedroom transformation is you.
