Spread the love

The rise in popularity of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) doesn’t only offer more people new ways to manage their health, it is also a growing industry that opens a variety of lucrative career opportunities. If you’re interested in entering the world of CAM, here is a list of the jobs that may be right for you.

Chiropractor

Chiropractic medicine works by applying pressure to targeted areas in the skeletal system. This adjustment process alleviates pain and allows tissues to recuperate. Adjustments are done either by hand or machine. In the UK, the practice is regulated by the General Chiropractic Council.

To become one of the now over 3,000 practising chiropractors in the UK, you will need to earn a Master of Chiropractic degree. It may take four years to finish this full-time program. Starting salaries for new graduates in this field are around £30,000 per year.

Massage Therapist

Massage therapists work on the muscles and soft tissues of the body to ease tension and pain. This treatment can be used for rehabilitation or just relaxation.

No degree or training is required to become a massage therapist. However, having some qualification or accreditation will help you attract your first clients. In the UK, massage therapists may seek accreditation from either the Federation of Holistic Therapists or the Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council.

The average massage therapist in the UK earns £19.16 per hour.

Acupuncturist

Acupuncturist

The practice of acupuncture targets specific points in the body called meridians. Thin needles are then inserted into these areas to stimulate them. This treatment is known to alleviate pain and address insomnia.

There are a variety of acupuncture courses offered in many institutions. Some courses lead to BSc and MSc degrees. The British Acupuncture Accreditation Board’s website offers a list of these programs. Completing a course automatically grants you eligibility to join the British Acupuncture Council.

A full-time acupuncturist in the UK can earn around £30,000-£40,000 annually.

Health Coach

Health coaches work with their clients to maintain positive health choices and meet their health goals. Coaches also guide clients through transitions in lifestyle in line with health targets.

There are a number of ways to become a health coach. Some choose to undergo professional health coach training. Some acquire degrees in nutrition or nutritional therapy first. The important thing is to gain a working understanding of physiology, nutrition, wellness, and mentoring.

Personal health coaches can charge around £40 — £60 per hour

Homeopath

Homeopathy treatments are done by introducing to the body diluted doses of substances that initially caused symptoms. This helps trigger the body’s inherent healing capability.

A number of institutions offer training courses and certifications for those hoping to practice homeopathy. Although homeopathy is not regulated in the UK, homeopathic products are regulated by the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency.

On average, homeopathy practitioners earn £29,640 per year.

As CAM treatments become more popular, more and more opportunities are also going to be available. This is the perfect time to take advantage of these chances.
