Having children can make life enjoyable. But there are times when they can be very delicate. They can get sick quickly and unexpectedly. And there are times when they may do things that get them in serious trouble that requires medical attention.

As a parent, you need to know first aid. There are times when the health problems your child has can be treated at home. But what if you’re on vacation? Then your child’s health may be in danger. In countries like Indonesia or Italy, you can avail of medical assistance anytime. For example, emergency care in Bali is available to many tourists visiting the island. But how would you know the signs of a serious illness?

   1. Fever

If you notice that your child feels hot to touch, you need to start thinking about the possibility of a fever. A fever is usually a sign that the body is fighting off infections. The problem comes in when the temperatures rise significantly.

When your child’s temperature exceeds 100.4° F (38°C), then it’s time to worry. It may indicate an underlying problem like malaria, typhoid, yellow fever, etc., all of which require medical intervention. Other symptoms in your child that may accompany the fever that should worry you include seizures, rashes, headaches, achy muscles, diarrhea, etc.

2. Animal bite marks

If your child tells you that an animal of some kind has bitten them, take them to emergency care. Animals whose bites you need to worry about include jellyfish, dogs, cats, monkeys, snakes. Some of these animal bites can cause rabies. The disease is dangerous and is often prevalent in many countries where wild animals and humans interact.

Snake bites are also serious, as they could be venomous and might necessitate amputation if they are not treated in time. So, you need to get your child treated as soon as possible to avoid medical complications in the future.

3. Respiratory problems

When your child is having difficulty breathing, then a visit to the emergency department of your local hospital may be the best option. Some children have been known to swallow things like coins, which end up obstructing their airways. But other medical conditions can cause respiratory problems. These include asthma, which can be deadly if left unattended.

Other signs of respiratory distress that you should look out for in your child include your child’s skin color turning blue, signs or choking, or when your child completely stops breathing.

4. Bleeding

Children often slip and fall, which can result in a little bleeding. But there is a time when bleeding requires professional medical attention. For example, when your child’s flesh and bones are exposed, it indicates the wound is quite deep; you need to see an emergency doctor. The child may need to be stitched.

You also need to worry if bleeding does not stop even after you apply pressure for a reasonable time. If your child has blood in the vomit or diarrhea, that’s a bad sign also.

You need to know at least one emergency care number you can contact if your child has medical complications that need urgent attention. Reputable medical professionals who can help your child could save a life.
