Wedding Trends for Brides of the New Decade

Spread the love

December to February is peak engagement season, which means we’re looking at plenty of brides-to-be at the start of the year. If you’re one of these future brides, you’re in luck. The year 2020 marks the emergence of new trends in style and fashion. These trends are also to be observed at upcoming weddings, in both fashion and decor.

If you’re planning your big day, look at these 2020 wedding trends and see what you can incorporate into your upcoming Minnesota wedding.

1. Sustainable Weddings

With personalities like Greta Thunberg making big news in 2019 for her thunderous clamor to save the environment, it’s no surprise that the green movement is making its way into weddings. From the planning to the honeymoon, weddings are affairs that, left unchecked, can leave a considerable carbon footprint. However, with some effort, , there’s a lot that you can do to lessen your big day’s impact on the environment.

For instance, you can choose to work with local vendors and suppliers to lessen the emissions impact of traveling long distances. You can recycle or repurpose floral arrangements, or, better yet, rent reusable décor.  Choose a menu of locally-sourced food items and ingredients, in support of farm-to-table business models. Work with recycled paper for your wedding invitations and unique, upcycled materials for your party favors.

2. Mysticism and Spirituality

Tarot readings, astrology, and other manifestations of spirituality and mysticism have been gaining popularity in pop culture. This New Year, more and more brides and their wedding parties will incorporate these aspects into their weddings.

Some inspiration for you: crystals as décor or wedding favors, tarot and palm reading during your wedding reception, or aura photobooths for you and your guests.

3. Lit Lighting

Whether you’re looking for country wedding venues or an upscale hotel in MN, there’s one thing that can take the place to a new level: bold, dramatic lighting.

Turn lights into the focal point of your wedding reception by putting up a huge hanging light installation or setting up an LED bar. Bring out your inner nerd with a Hogwarts-like dining area light up by hanging candles. Add strings of fairy lights somewhere you want to highlight, like over your wedding cake. With tons of lighting options and designs, your imagination’s the limit when it comes to illuminating your wedding day.

4. Pay it Forward Registry

The couples of the new decade want things more personalized, and this includes their wedding registry. Instead of traditional items like toasters and blenders, more couples will ask guests for donations to a cause or organization they support in 2020.

5. Dressed to Impress

When it comes to wedding fashion, there haven’t been too many changes in the past decade. It’s sleek and smart in a black tux for grooms and svelte and sexy in form-fitting, classic white gowns for brides. The wedding fashion in 2020 is coming in strong, though, with navy, teal, and classic blue-hued tuxes for men and bright-colored or pattern-printed gowns for women. In addition, exaggerated sleeves in brides’ gowns and clips and barrettes in their hair are also on trend this year.

The best trend for 2020 and one that will endure for decades to come, though, is personalization. Not every trendy thing will appeal to you and your spouse-to-be, but there are plenty of ways to make these trends uniquely yours, which is what’s important.
