Going About Your Personal Injury Claim

Personal Injury ClaimsAccidents can happen anytime – one moment you are alright, the next, you are simply unable to perform your job. Due to this, the government has enacted laws on personal injury compensation. But, how do you go about filing a claim when you unfamiliar with the steps?

Before filing a claim for personal injury, understand first the two types of personal injury – physical injury, and psychological injury. When either occurs, you need to take care of a number of things. For example, figuring out if you would like to file for compensation only, or if you would file a complaint against the party that aggrieved you.

Firms such as the Separovic Injury Lawyers can tell you that you need to take the following actions:

  1. Report the incident.

Report personal injuries to proper authorities. For example, if the injury happened during the performance of your duties, you need to inform your immediate superior to prepare the necessary documentation. On the other hand, if the injury happened, say, during a road accident, you need to let the police know.

  1. Get the needed information.

For road accidents, note down the name of the driver, their driver’s licence number, the make and model of their car, and their contact number. Take pictures of the damage as well, if you can. You can use this to build your claim.

In some cases, you may also need to have the name of the officers who helped you during the accident and those who worked on the scene.

  1. Notify the insurance provider.

You would need to notify not only your own insurance provider, but also the provider of the other party as well. Once done, expect a call from the claims adjuster within a few days. In most cases, they will require filling up certain forms and submit documents. Grave situations would sometimes warrant the services of a lawyer, especially if the incident caused injury.

Personal injury claims are not ways to make money off an incident. It is a way to compensate someone for injuries that another party has rendered. Talk with an insurance agent or a lawyer for specific steps, as laws about this may be different in other areas.
