Leaky Flat Roof? The Tar and Gravel Repair Guide You Need

Spread the love

Flat Roofing Repair in Salt Lake CityEven with proper maintenance, your roof may start leaking at some point due to wear and tear. Flat roofs will start leaking when they have cracks on them, and these cracks may develop due to harsh weather conditions.

Like any other roof, flat roofs need maintenance on a regular basis. Your best solution, in this case, is to repair your roof as soon as possible. A common flat roof covering when doing repairs in Salt Lake City is tar and gravel. Here are some steps to follow:

Step 1

Find the crack that is causing the leaks. Flat roofs are usually built up by layers of tar and roofing felt. In most cases, the leaks on these roofs will occur at low spots where they compromise the roofing felt. Check directly below the damaged roofing felt to locate the leak.

Step 2

Once you have successfully found the crack, clean the area around it and let it dry. Afterward, apply some primer using a roller or a brush. The primer will enable the asphalt in the roof to adhere properly to the tar and grave repair patch for use later. Allow the primer coat to dry properly.

Step 3

Finally, you need to apply the tar and gravel repair patch. Do this in at least two layers. Apply the patch carefully, so that there is no air trapped in between the patches. Press the patches firmly using a roller and then cover with a layer of gravel.

Clearly, repairing your flat roof isn’t rocket science and you can comfortably do it yourself. If you prefer not to get your hands dirty or you simply want the work done, however, then seeking the services of a professional is advisable.
